Paintings 2025

When I was in art school in the 90’s I studied the history of the Prehispanic cultures of Mesoamerica. I became fascinated by their art, specially Maya and Aztec. I became familiar with their glyphs and pictograms, and began to look at them more in depth. I wanted to incorporate them into my painting compositions and decided to appropriate the ones that I felt most attracted to, transforming them into my own. I created a personal dictionary inspired by those glyphs and pictograms and they are an intrinsic part of my painting compositions. Cy Twombly, William Turner, Pablo Picasso, are some of my main influences. My paintings are inspired by Pre-Hispanic imagery and motifs from the past, recreated in a language of my own and placed into an environment energized by Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art.
